Associate Professor David James Young

 

EDUCATION

BSc(Hons) PhD Univ of Qld FRACI

 

David obtained his PhD under the supervision of Professor William Kitching at the University of Queensland in the area of organotin chemistry. He subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant with Professor Charles Stirling FRS at the University College of North Wales and then with Dr Michael Robinson, Oxford University.

TEACHING

His first academic position was as a Senior Tutor at the University of Sydney and from Sydney moved to a Lectureship at the Queensland University of Technology. Since then, he has been a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, ARC Research Fellow and Associate Professor at Griffith University.

CONSULTANCIES

David has undertaken numerous consultancies for AusAID in Indonesia, teaching chemistry and assisting with research projects at universities in West Java, Bali, Lombok and West Timor.

ACADEMIC DISTINCTIONS

David was awarded the Royal Australian Chemical InstituteÕs Rennie Memorial Medal in 1991 and Organometallic medal in 2000 and made a Fellow of the RACI in 2001.
He has held Visiting Associate Professorships at the National University of Singapore in 2001/2 and 2007/8.
His most recent award is an inaugural Queensland International Fellowship 2009 from the Qld. Department of Premier and Cabinet to pursue his research collaboration with Professor Andy Hor at the National University of Singapore.
